Hurricanes Helene and Milton Relief

Medical Global Foundation Org. was staged and ready to provide immediate relief before Hurricane Helene’s record-breaking landfall, first arriving in Pasco and Madison Counties, Florida, in the hours following Helene’s passage. Within two days, we deployed a team to Asheville, North Carolina, in response to reports of unprecedented flash flooding and mudslides ravaging the region. The team assessed over 60 homes for emergency assistance and completed debris removal, mucking, gutting and hazardous tree removal across more than 20 sites during their first week.

Less than two weeks later, while still engaged in immediate Hurricane Helene cleanup efforts in Florida, Hurricane Milton – the fastest intensifying Category 5 hurricane on record – began to close in on Florida, prompting the team’s evacuation. Anticipating severe damage, our team was prepared to return immediately after the storm, resuming critical cleanup and hazardous debris removal as part of the early stages of their 12-month response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Philippines Typhoon Relief

Medical Global Foundation Org has intermittently operated in the Philippines since 2018, responding to disasters such as Typhoon Rai (known locally as Odette), Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) and Typhoon Mangkhut (Ompong). Our work is tailored to the unique needs of the disaster-impacted communities we work alongside. Primarily, this takes the form of restoring access to education by rebuilding typhoon-affected schools and constructing Transitional Learning Spaces (TLS), this took the form of restoring livelihoods through facilitating fishing boat repairs led by an entirely Filippina team.

Storms Preparation - Construction Team

Hurricanes and storms can be destructive, but they can also be anticipated, which can allow time for planning and preparation. If your job site is located in an area subject to hurricanes, have it surveyed to determine the potential exposure to high winds and flooding. Create a hurricane contingency plan to help prevent loss to the job site due to winds, flooding, mud buildup and theft.
